Hamilton County in Need
While many find it hard to believe that Hamilton County has a population of families that are living in substandard or inadequate housing, statistics show that there are more than 8,000 households in our county that fall into this category. Many families are living in homes without running water, inadequate heat in the winter, leaky roofs, and no insulation. Many are paying over 50% of their gross income to rent. Habitat for Humanity in Hamilton County Indiana was incorporated in May of 1990. Since that time we have built 47 new houses and refurbishing 15. But more important, we have helped change the lives of over 175 people by restoring their hope. We have moved them into clean, decent, affordable housing. Their children will not shiver through another winter night nor will they have to worry about the landlord not making needed repairs to their home. They are now homeowners and partners in their communities.
Our Goal
To help address the need in Hamilton County, our goal is to increase the number of homes built each year until we reach 10 homes per year by 2010.
